Have you been trying to get in shape? You might have started an exercise or fitness routine. As well as setting up a food plan, this is generally where people begin when they start to consider how to drop those pounds. Most people go for the typical workout options like weightlifting or cardio and then find, hey, exercising is hard work. Who knew right? If you try too much too fast, you are always going to end up back in bed watching Netflix.

Rather than trying the typical workout, you might want to consider exercising in water. A Water workout is a great possibility if you love swimming. You can burn a lot of calories, and it’s a tad easier on your body compared to say, running a mile. Did you know that running might actually cause arthritis later in life? That’s one reason to leave the running shoes at home huh?

But before you immediately start hitting the pool, there are a few things to consider.

Can You Actually Swim Properly?

Most people can swim on some level. It’s very rare for someone over the age of twenty to drown in a swimming pool. It’s almost instinctive to know how to swim back to the sides, even if you have never had any lessons. But, if it’s been a while since you’ve been in the water, you might have forgotten the right swimming techniques. If that’s the case, you might want to consider checking out a service like Aquabliss swim school. Not just for kids, swim schools can help teach you all the techniques you’ve forgotten and help you get back to swimming the right way. Unsurprisingly if you don’t use the right technique when swimming, you’re not going to burn that many calories.

Swimming Is Better Than Other Aqua Exercises

Unless you are over sixty, you should be swimming properly when you go to the pool. That means pick a stroke and stick to it. The butterfly is the best type of swimming for burning calories but if you hate that one as much as the rest of us, breaststroke is a great alternative. The trick is to once again adopt the right technique. Make sure that your head does bob out of the water with every stroke. Otherwise, you won’t be getting the most benefit from this exercise.

You might have considered other forms of aqua exercise, but these simply aren’t as effective at burning calories. If you’re serious about losing weight and getting in shape, you really to do lengths.

Don’t Stop

Finally, like any other type of exercise, you shouldn’t be taking extended breaks between lengths. Instead, you should go for as long and as hard as possible before swimming over to the side of the pool. Again, this is going to make you actually feel the burn of your exercise routine.

Our last tip? Make sure you warm down after a heavy swim session. Otherwise, you might find you wake up the next morning sore all over and unable to continue your regular trips to the pool.
