Best makeup for Oily/Combination Skin

As mentioned in a previous post I was cursed with Oily skin. As a teen I suffered with spots, but then again who didn’t? Over the years I have tried some high end and low end products in order to tame my reflective face.

The best primer I have found is annoyingly the Nivea post shave balm for men. I didn’t want to like this product, as it seemed to good to be true. The only thing that could be seen as an issue for this product is that it does have a manly smell to it, but I kind of like it. The first time I used this I thought I would really put it to the test. I spent all afternoon gardening in the heat. When I say gardening I don’t mean putting pretty flowers in flower beds. I mean digging the ground about 1m deep trying to make my lawn level. I am aware that as a 21 year old I should probably not be doing things like that, but I have the mind of a 40 year old, the joints of an 80 year old. Anyway, back to the point, when I came in from my afternoon of being elderly, my makeup looked exactly the same as it did before. I love this product so much that I have even recommended it to strangers I have met in public!

I have had a roller coaster of emotions with regards to foundation. I was loving Mac Studio Fix, I went to buy some more but they didn’t have my shade in stock. They did however have my shade in the Pro longwear. I was sceptical with this as its not exactly known for being a matte foundation, however teamed with some Rimmel stay matte power (life saver) it worked perfectly. It actually would last my entire work day, which was a big deal for me.

After hearing everyone rave about it I thought I would try out Estée Lauder Double Wear. I hated this, it would literally slide off my face and leave me all patchy. I wouldn’t recommend this to people with oily/combination skin although some people would, so I would recommend getting a sample so you can try it for yourself. Sorry for being so useless here, what I would say is don’t go buying it without trying it!

I loved my Mac Pro Longwear foundation and I could easily afford it when I was working, but last summer I was signed off work for a couple of months. Statutory sick pay isn’t very much, so I had to say goodbye to my favourite foundation. This was a blessing in disguise as I was forced to enter the world of high street foundation again. I randomly chose the Loreal True match foundation. I cannot stress enough how much I love this. It is light weight which normally I don’t like but this worked. It lasts all day and the colours are great. I thought I’d get a couple of high street foundations under my belt so I bought the Revlon Liquid foundation. This is 100% (in my opinion) the best Mac Pro Longwear dupe. I have only recently changed over to the NYX Matte not flat foundation. This is great too but if I had to rate these three, it would be Revlon, NYX then Loreal. They’re all great just some are better than others.
My new love, as mentioned before is the NYX setting spray. It changed my life. Using the Nivea post shave balm as primer, then using either Pro Longwear or Revlon Liquid foundation, finishing off with the setting spray you’re good to go all day whatever the weather!

If you have any other suggestions let me know as I’m always on the hunt for life changing makeup!
